Brett graduated from Green River High School in 1987, Westminster College of Salt Lake City in 1991, and the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1995.

Brett has served as a deputy county attorney, public defender and private practitioner in Wyoming and Colorado.  He assumed the office of Sweetwater County & Prosecuting Attorney in January, 2007, and describes himself as a student of leadership, management and trial advocacy.
