Flood

Prepare Now:

  • Find out if your area is prone to floods.
  • Know the difference between a watch (the incident may happen) and a warning (conditions are such that the incident is going to occur).
  • Have plywood to cover all windows.
  • In a flood zone, purchase flood insurance.
  • Plan to secure and evacuate your mobile home for adequate shelter.

During a Flood:

  • Listen to the designated radio or TV emergency alert system for emergency instructions.
  • Stay away from flood water; do not attempt to swim, walk or drive through it.
  • Secure or bring in outdoor furniture.
  • If instructed, turn off utilities at main switches; unplug appliances. DO NOT touch electrical equipment if it is wet.
  • If the water is deep, allow it to flow freely in the basement to help minimize or avoid structural damage.
  • Do not stack sandbags against the outside of the house as it adds pressure.
  • Avoid downed power lines.
  • Do not drink tap water as it may be contaminated.
  • Move valuables to upper floors.
