Emergency Managment
The Sweetwater County Emergency Management Agency -- SCEMA -- operates under the guidelines of several state and federal agencies and is a division of the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office.
We analyze the hazards, assess capabilities, plan for the potential events then respond to, recover from, and mitigate against, the emergency/disaster. We coordinate with response agencies, industry, elected officials and volunteer agencies to accomplish our mission of limiting injuries, reducing loss of life and damage to property.

911
When you're faced with an emergency, the more you can do to save time, the better. That's why you should always call 911.
Sweetwater County has Enhanced and Wireless Phase I 911. Enhanced 911 means that when you call 911 from your hard wired phone the dispatcher knows the call back telephone number and the address where the call is being made from. Even a young child can call and get help without knowing all the specifics of the situation. Wireless Phase I 911 means that when you call 911 from a cell phone the dispatcher receives the telephone number of the cell phone and the approximate location of the caller. Not all cellular companies route their cell phone 911 calls through the 911 system so the dispatcher may not receive your telephone number or approximate location. To be on the safe side, you should advise the dispatcher where you are as closely as possible then advise what your emergency is.

"To better protect the lives and property of citizens of Sweetwater County"
Water Rescue
Sweetwater County EMA is responsible for coordinating resources for water rescue/recovery operations. Locally there is a team of volunteers who operate the county's boat, a 24" Starfire equipped with radar, sonar, underwater cameras and video equipment.
The divers are trained to dive to the depth of 100' and also have underwater cameras to aid in the search for people who are presumed drowned. The divers are trained, certified and equipped to dive in ice conditions.
We encourage people to make themselves familiar with water safety issues if they are going to participate in water recreation whether it be fishing, rafting, boating, or just sight seeing from the water.

SCART (Sweetwater County Animal Response Team)
The SCART was formed as a result of the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards Act (PETS Act). Hurricane Katrina has clearly shown that when given a choice between their own personal safety and abandoning their household pets, a significant number of people will choose to risk their lives in order to remain with their pets. This makes disaster preparedness and response for animal related personnel an essential undertaking. Animal and human populations receive greater quality care when disaster response plans are developed before the disaster, not during the actual event.
We would like to invite individuals who are interested in our plan and may be interested in joining our team to attend one of our meetings/training events.
Where: Small Hall of the Sweetwater County Events Complex (Building to the right and slightly behind the Main Hall)
When: The Third Monday of each month from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
