Motor Vehicles
License Plates & Vehicle Registrations
Standard license plates and vehicle registrations are obtained through the local County Treasurer’s Office in the county seat of the county of residence. Annual registration is required for all motor vehicles. Annual registration is good for 12 months from date of purchase or acquisition (the date the vehicle was brought in to Wyoming on a permanent basis). Plates and registration are renewed annually. Plates expire the last day of the expiration month. There is no grace period on plate expiration.

New Wyoming Registrations

  • New Wyoming vehicle purchases - For a new or new to you vehicle registration, you will need:
    • A copy of the dealer invoice if purchased from a dealer
    • A copy of your Wyoming title or the title number of your Wyoming title
    • Sales or use tax must be paid at time of registration or if the tax is paid prior to registration a copy of the Wyoming sales tax receipt
    • Verification of insurance
    • Your lease agreement if your vehicle is leased
    • A copy of your current IRS Form 2290 for commercial vehicles that weigh more than 55,000 pounds
  • Out of state vehicle registrations - Wyoming plates and registration are required upon employment or upon becoming a resident. The things you will need include:
    • A copy of your current registration from another state
    • A Wyoming title if your registration is not current
    • Verification of insurance

Renewing Your Vehicle Registration
For renewals of vehicle registrations, you will need:
  • A copy of your current IRS Form 2290 if your vehicle is a commercial vehicle weighing more than 55,000 pounds
  • Registration renewal card, previous registration, or license plate number
  • Verification of insurance
