Paying Your Bill
Cash and personal checks are accepted methods of payment.
Currently, Sweetwater County does not accept credit cards because, unlike the private sector merchants, the County Treasurer’s Office cannot absorb the merchant fees into the cost of doing business. However, the use of VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit and debit cards is available through third-party providers. The providers charge a convenience fee to the customer for the use of the card at the treasurer’s office. Point & Pay is the provider available at this time. The fee is 2.5% or $2.00 minimum for the use of debit and credit cards. The Sweetwater County Treasurer does not receive any portion of this convenience fee.
If a taxpayer’s check is returned to this office by the bank, an additional $30 fee is collected when making payment. Payment of a returned check must be made in cash, through certified funds, or by credit card. Also if a returned check is for the payment of sales tax, there could be additional costs for an increase to interest and penalty. If a taxpayer or vehicle registrant passes more than one returned check in the county, cash, or credit card will be the only acceptable payment method thereafter.
